Everyone remembers where they were the morning of September 11th.  I worked in a TV station with televisions on in every room so I watched the entire morning unfold before me. It was a powerful morning that I will remember forever.

This week, not so much.

This is the first year where I didn’t get the 9/11 vibe from everyone around me.

Year 11.

On my 11th wedding anniversary I was dragging my children through multiple airports returning from a family vacation. I think I gave my wife a kiss and a card in an airport Starbucks, and splurged on a lemon bar to split (I’m a hopeless romantic). I think I said something like, “I hope you decide to keep me for another 11”, and then chased after my son who had just taken off down the concourse. Since we passed our second 11th anniversary a few years ago she fortunately didn’t hold our “Starbucks” anniversary against me.

We need to hold ourselves to a much higher standard as a country. As we move farther and farther away from 2001, we need to continue to remember those that passed on September 11th. I went to the 9/11 Memorial site and watched a few of the videos about those lost in the attack and the plans for the New York site. I highly recommend it.

Have a great weekend, and tell someone what you remember about  9/11 .
